Hawks eat pigeons because pigeons are a rich, abundant source of meat, and urban environments make these prey birds easy to catch. 


  • High Abundance: Cities and towns have large, steady populations of feral pigeons, providing a reliable food source for opportunistic raptors like Cooper's Hawks and Red-tailed Hawks. 

  • Nutritional Value: Pigeons are large enough to provide a substantial meal and energy boost for a hunting hawk. 

  • Natural Instincts: As strict carnivores, hawks possess sharp talons and hooked beaks designed by evolution to capture and consume other birds.

    Beautiful female pigeon.  Lovely mix of colors, fether quality and great posture.  I figured her picture wasn't the best pose.  The male is impressive and very masculine looking and I'm happy to say they are calm and get along very well together.  Thanks again they are gorgeous....

    Hi Don, birds are adapting well.  I like their presentaion & calmness.  Looks like they will fit in with my birds.  I see what you mean about the BB.  We'll see how he produces.  Might b a genetic thing & go away when crossed with and unrelated hen.
