The Great Hansenne

Let us try to trace the origin, so far as available records permit, of this "world's greatest strain," founded and raced over a period of 50 years by M. Renier Gurnay, of Verviers, Belgium (1886 to 1936).  To do that is we must go back to the time with immortal figure, Alexandre Hansenne, of Verviers, founded his particular strain on the bronzes, blues and whites of Dedoyard, Guilisson and Bonjean, and achieved those great records that became familiar to fanciers all over the world.  Hansenne stood as a giant in his day, head and shoulders above his colleagues who, even then, were numbered as the coterie of the greatest centre of pigeon racing-Belgium.
